This last week I attended the Grace Hopper Celebration of Women in Computing conference in Phoenix, Arizona. The conference is the largest gathering of women technologists and this year boasted nearly 8,000 attendees. Speakers included professors, researchers, practitioners, and leaders from some of the nation’s most prestigious universities and companies. It was an inspiring week to see just how much impact women have in technology yet also humbling to consider how far we have left to go to get the recognition, respect and pay we’ve rightfully earned.
The conference is named after one of the pioneers of modern computing, Grace Hopper. In her honor, I thought it fitting to share one her more notable quotes. Hopper had a distinguished career and received many honors for her significant contribution to computer science. Admittedly, I knew little about her prior to the conference but her influence is still very much apart of my life including the systems you and I use on a daily basis.
While this blog isn’t about computer science, it is about following your dreams and seeking to do things never done before. In that sense, I think we can all relate to Grace Hopper and her pursuit for thoughtful originality.
Have a wonderful week!
