I couldn’t resist revisiting felted acorns again this year. I just think they are the cutest things. Last year as part of 25 Days of Crafts, Krafty Kath and I made giant felted acorns that are perfect for tabletop decorations. These fellows are their petite counterpart and look great strung together and hung on a tree.
Truth be told, the best part of this project was using my Dremel!
DIY Felted Acorn Garland
Approximate time: 1 hour (more if you hand felt the balls)
Materials and Supplies
- Dremel with 11/64″ drill bit
- 24 white felted balls approximately 1″ in diameter (store bought or handmade)
- 24 small acorn caps (lots to choose from on Etsy)
- 12′ of twine
- Large needle
- Hot glue an glue gun
Drill two holes for the string on either side of an acorn cap. Repeat for all 24 caps.
With a needle, thread the twine down and through one hole and up and out of the other hole. Pull the twine through to six inches before the end of the twine.
Apply hot glue to the inside of the acorn cap.
Insert the felt ball into the acorn cap. Squeeze it in so that it’s secure.
Measure six (6) inches and place the next acorn cap, repeating steps 2 through 4 until you have all 24 acorns strung.
Smashing! You just made a felted acorn garland!
