Greetings from New York City! This week I am in the city for work but I’ll be squeezing in every bit of fun and exploration possible. Last night I had a lovely meal at Frank Restaurant with a coworker and her sister. As luck would have it, the restaurant was just around the corner from my go-to spot for unique and beautiful Christmas ornaments, John Derian. I picked up some charming animals and insects (yes, insects!) I can’t wait to add them to my tree.
It was when I returned to the hotel that I was reminded how the small, simple things in life really make it special. When I originally checked in, I struggled to get onto the Internet. I panicked, of course, because I have many new posts to share this week, and ahem, work to do too 😉 I talked to the hotel’s IT and engineering but by the time we left for dinner it hadn’t been resolved.
Upon returning to my room, I was greeted by a lovely letter from the front desk providing an update on the Internet (as you can see, it’s working now!) I also had a second handwritten note with a box of chocolate-covered pretzels, a mint on my pillow, and slippers by the bed. Talk about many wonderful, small things that add up to feeling incredibly pampered! While we could just chalk this up to great hospitality (which it is), I also think it’s about going the extra 10 percent that most other hotels would not be bothered to do. It’s certainly made an impression on me and I will no doubt remember this hotel fondly in the future.
For the rest of us, we can bring sweet, simple things to our lives and those we care about in other ways. Breakfast in bed for your special someone, a favorite warm beverage for a coworker, or a minute or two of extra care when wrapping gifts for under the tree. Whatever it is we do to show we care, it is in those acts that we experience the true pleasures that life has to give.
Here’s wishing many sweet, simple things to your week.
