Thanksgiving week is upon us! Quite impulsively, I chose against convenience this year and will embark on my very first home-cooked turkey. I only have Pinterest to guide me so wish me well!
Today’s quote is from Henry van Dyke. I know little of him beyond Wikipedia excerpts but what I do know is that he was an author, clergyman, and instructor at Princeton. He was also friends with Helen Keller, who had this to say:
Dr. van Dyke is the kind of a friend to have when one is up against a difficult problem. He will take trouble, days and nights of trouble, if it is for somebody else or for some cause he is interested in. – Helen Keller
We should all be so fortunate to have a least one friend like that.
I believe, for most of us, in our own ways, this has been a hard year. For me, among other things it’s been the fear of losing all the progress I believe we’ve made as a country these past several years. It’s the first time in my life that I feel a call to be more active. I don’t know how that will unfold but what motivates me is to be grateful for what we have and to express that gratitude by doing my part to preserve it. Life, love, and time are all precious and I need to be more intentional about not taking them for granted.
I wish you all a wonderful and warm holiday this week. As the hygge meaning goes, let us all enjoy the warmth and good things in life with the people we care for most.
