Day two of Shibori week is all about journals. The shibori fabric I used for this project started with remnants from another past project. I can’t recall where I got it or exactly what it is, but the texture, color, and weight lent itself to a really interesting and rich pattern. It turned out to be one of my favorite patterns from all the dyeing I did and so I wanted to make sure I put it to good use. These reusable journal covers were just the thing. Once again they are inexpensive to create and make a great impression as one-of-a-kind handmade pieces. I’ll be keeping these for myself but they would also make for great, personalized gifts.

DIY Steps
For this DIY, I recommend the WikiHow tutorial, How to Sew a Fabric Book Cover. It’s complete with step-by-step instructions and images. As a novice sewer, I used it to make these journal covers and I found it was easy to follow and helpful. My fabric was thick enough that I didn’t interfacing as the tutorial suggests, but depending on your fabric, it may be needed.
